Customers who pre-ordered Barnes and Noble’s Nook eReader already will get their Nook shipped on November 30, but anyone ordering now will get a December 11 Ship date. The reason for push-back? Strong demand. No figures were available from B&N on how many pre-orders the e-reader has gotten, but demand is clearly outstripping the supply.
The good news is that customers can still get a pre-Christmas delivery. Demo units of the device will reportedly be in Barnes and Noble stores by the end of November, and that should boost sales further, since few but early adopters are willing to purchase a new device like this unless they’ve seen it in person or read positive hands-on reviews. But if you wait until the demos are in, you might not get your order until after the holidays, which could explain the high demand.
Sales of the Nook are going ahead despite the lawsuit filed by Spring Design alleging misappropriation of trade secrets relating to their own Alex e-reader, a similar looking Android based device. The filing asks for monetary damages and seeks to halt sales on the $259 Nook.
The device can be pre-ordered at B&N's website.
