Some things seem to just never die and in the case of Internet Explorer 6, it seems to have the same fate. Microsoft announced yesterday that they would be extending product support for this antiquated product until 2014, even though the company has moved past version 6, and version 7, and is completely dedicated to version 8 of the browser.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 was announced in 2001 as part of Windows XP but with 2010 just around the corner and the release of Windows 7 coming up in October, I think its a time for users to move on and upgrade to at least IE7, if not IE8.
Sometimes it may not always be possible for users to upgrade, especially with how Microsoft totally redesigns things (breaks things) in bewteen upgrades like going from XP to Vista. However, developers should begin developing on the latest and greatest browser once it has been announced IMO. This would make the upgrade much easier for users of older versions to update, if their applications work fully with the newer version leaving no reason not to upgrade.
For now, IE6 users still have until 2014 to upgrade either to Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, or even probably Internet Explorer 9 by then. Who knows!
