Nokia's First Symbian TD-SCDMA Handset for China Mobile

Nokia today announced its first ever handset for TD-SCDMA, the 3G standard of China. The Nokia 6788 Nokia worked with China Mobile, the countrys (and the entire worlds) largest mobile phone carrier. Designed for China Mobile's network, the Nokia 6788 is a multi-use device that providing faster Internet browsing and downloading, a 5MP camera with a dual-LED flash, 2.8" QVGA display, running on the Symbian S60 platform. Featuring traditional Chinese patterns on the back of the slide and the battery cover, the 6788 is expected to be released before year end.

With a wide range of integrated China Mobile applications, the Nokia 6788 marks a new level of collaboration with China Mobile and offers enriched experiences to China's 3G users. Nokia plans to introduce more TD-SCDMA phones in the near future, further boosting the development of this 3G standard in China," said Nokia CEO Olli Pekka Kallasvuo.

TD-SCDMA (time division synchronous code division multiple access) is a 3G mobile telephone standard which supports both circuit-switched data, such as speech or video, and packet-switched data from the Internet. The standard combines time division multiple access (TDMA) with an adaptive, synchronous-mode code division multiple access (CDMA) feature.
