Here are some of our favorite apps that we've used on our iPhone's. Please let us know some of your favorites of 2008!
iTV
i.TV is a TV guide and movie information app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. There are over 144,000 TV and movie listings, 5,000 theater locations, 6,000 TV and movie previews, and plenty of user generated reviews. The app allows you to browse through your TV guide in your area to see what's coming on. I use it a lot for the reviews and movie show times. It's also handy to know what's coming on while you are sitting in work traffic. If they could only allow remote scheduling for DirecTV and Tivo's, it would be perfect.
Around Me
How many times have you found yourself in need of finding the closest Gas Station? AroundMe quickly identifies your position and allows you to choose the nearest Bank, Bar, Gas Station, Hospital, Hotel, Movie Theatre, Restaurant, Supermarket, Theatre and Taxi. AroundMe shows you a complete list of all the businesses in the category you have tapped on along with the distance from where you are. For every listing you can choose to see its location on a Map, view the route from where you are, add the information to your contact list or even email the information to a friend. The Nearby listing allows you to find information using Wikipedia about what is around you. A great little application that I use regularly.
Pandora
No Best of 2008 iPhone Apps list would be complete without Pandora. Pandora Radio is your own FREE personalized radio now available to stream music on your iPhone. Just start with the name of one of your favorite artists, songs or classical composers and Pandora will create a "station" that plays their music and more music like it. It's awesome to be driving down the road having Pandora streaming live across your Car stereo system.
Google Mobile App
Google Mobile App helps you find the information you need quickly and easily with instant access to Google Search. You can search with your voice so you don't have to type and search with My Location makes finding business, weather, and movie info easy. Suggestions appear as you type to save you time. You can even launch Gmail, Google News, and more from one place. We've thoroughly tested the voice search feature and found that it works quiet well. We no longer have to dial Google 411 to get information that we need.
FS5 Hockey
Touch Hockey is the premier air hockey game for the iPhone and iPod touch. Head-to-head match-ups bring frantic finger-flicking action wherever you go, or take on the computer for some extra practice. Wonderful for a quick game with friends or entertaining the kids, adjustable goal sizes balance the gameplay for everyone whether young, old, beginner or expert. Select from several match length options to fit your schedule and let the games begin! It's a great little game to play we enjoy it greatly!
iBowl
This game gives you Wii like bowling action on your iPhone! You swing your iPhone just like the bowling games on the Wii and let go of the touch screen to release the bowl. You can line up the bowl and more. If you twist your wrist during the motion, the ball will curve and spin just like real-life.
Live Poker
Zynga's Live Poker, a game available through the App Store, looks like any ordinary Texas Hold'em poker game, but its unique feature is the ability to play with others live online. The game is free as is the gaming experience, meaning players only gamble with fake money. Each player receives a daily allowance of 1,000 play chips. It's amazing how fast it is and how much fun you'll have playing poker on your iPhone. This application is a very good social gaming implementation that ever Poker player must download.
All in all, we've really enjoyed what we've seen come out of the Apple App Store this year. We hope 2009 brings us much more creative and social apps.
