The U.S. President-elect, Barack Obama has selected Julius Genachowski to lead the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) he said on Monday. The new selected FCC leader was a former classmate of Obama's at Harvard Law School. Genachowski also served as chief counsel for former FCC Chairman Reed Hundt and held various positions at IAC/InterActiveCorp and other technology companies.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the United States government, created, directed, and empowered by Congressional statute, and with the majority of its commissioners appointed by the current President. The FCC works towards six strategic goals in the areas of broadband, competition, the spectrum, the media, public safety and homeland security, and modernizing the FCC.
One of the big projects underway at the FCC is the one that outgoing Federal Communications Commission Chairman, Kevin Martin, has put together - Free Wireless for Americans. The new chairman of the FCC will need to quickly get together with its team to discuss the project as well as the project to cutoff analog TV service next month.
