On Sunday, the Mars Rover - Spirit failed to carry out directions it received. The robot on the Martian surface should have stored its day's of activities in the rover's long-term memory banks for later processing. According to NASA the rover seems to have recovered as of Yesterday from the anomaly. The team at NASA will perform diagnostics tests to determine what happened on Sunday that caused the issue. Sunday was the rovers 1800th day on the Mars surface and has beaten the 90-day mission time by a factor of 20.
We don't have a good explanation yet for the way Spirit has been acting for the past few days," said Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) team leader Sharon Laubach. "Our next steps will be diagnostic activities."
What ever the issue was, seemed to have corrected itself.
"Right now, Spirit is under normal sequence control, reporting good health and responsive to commands from the ground," Mars Rovers project director John Callas said.
