Ex Unix Engineer Plants Timebomb in Fannie Mae Server

Rajendrasinh Babubhai Makwana, a senior Unix engineer contractor for Fannie Mae allegedly planted a "logic bomb" right before his contract with the company was terminated back in October of 2008. The script, or also referred to as a logic bomb, was set to activate on January 31st, 2009 and wold have completely wiped all of the data on Fannie Mae's 4,000 servers. Based on reports from the engineers at the company if the bomb would have went off it could have cost millions of dollars worth of damages and could have shut the company down for a week or two.

Makwana, age 35, of Glen Allen, Virginia, formerly of Gaithersburg, Maryland could face 10 years in prison as well as fines for damages if convicted. According to the FBI, "The malicious script was at the bottom of the legitimate script, separated by approximately one page of blank lines, apparently in an effort to hide the malicious script within the legitimate script."

Engineers at the company quickly locked down all of the existing servers and removed the code from the existing script. They also went through other existing code to make sure no other malicious content was injected.
