It's official, the DTV transition date has been officially changed to June 12th as the DTV Delay bill passed and will be signed into law. After the bill originally failed to pass law makers were able to make some modifications to the bill to allow broadcasters the option to choose when to turn analog broadcasting off between Feb 17th and June 12th.
"We addressed the concerns of our colleagues, public safety, broadcasters and most importantly, consumers" Jay Rockefeller D-WV, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee said.
By disabling analog TV broadcasts, a large white space spectrum will be avaliable that large tech giants like Google and Microsoft could use for portable devices.
Now all that's left is to have the President sign the bill into law.
