Shaw Cable Speeds Up to 100Mbps In Slow Economy

As the Canadian economy continues to slow down, Shaw Communications is forging ahead, ramping up its internet speeds and hiring several hundred additional employees.

"While many companies are announcing layoffs and cutbacks, we continue to listen to our customers by enhancing their experience and providing more value," said Peter Bissonnette, President, Shaw Communications Inc. "Our customers tell us that they want cutting-edge products supported by exceptional service. They want to speak to a real person from their own community who cares about their needs."

Launching in Saskatchewan today, High-Speed Nitro is unquestionably the fastest Internet speed available across Canada at 100 Mbps, quite a bit faster than the 60 Mbps Charter recently announced. Through the deployment of DOCSIS 3.0 technology, Shaw has upgraded its package of Internet services and will roll-out High-Speed Nitro and its other speed enhancements to all Shaw communities over the coming months. All Shaw High-Speed customers will experience a 50 per cent or greater increase in speed.

"Our current speed enhancements and increase in people power is just one more indicator of Shaw's commitment to satisfying our customers' needs with greater choice for Internet speed, support and reliability." said Bissonnette.

In addition to High-Speed Nitro, Shaw High Speed, currently offered at 5 megabytes per second (Mbps), will be bumped to 7.5 Mbps with PowerBoostTM, a feature that provides a 5 to 20-second burst of speed that makes downloading files and webpage's even faster; and High-Speed Xtreme-I, currently offered at 10 Mbps, will be upgraded to 15Mbps with PowerBoost.
