Steam Update Removes SecuROM DRM From C&C Red Alert 3

The folks at Steam made a posting today that said a new update had been released for Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 and that users would automatically receive the update when the Steam client is restarted. The most interesting part of this update is that they removed the SecuROM technology from the game as well as remove the game-specific SecuROM license from your machine.

The SecuROM DRM solution that EA has implemented changes copy protection from being key-disc based, which requires authentication every time you play the game by requiring a disc in the drive to a one-time online authentication. This system has the added benefit of allowing you to seamlessly play your game without requiring the game disc in the drive. To remove SecuROM and related files from your computer, head over to the EA support site to get the instructions.
