Apparently customers that own an AMD Phenom II processor can turn the 3 cores into 4 cores, or make it a quad core without any hardware modifications. According to the source, it requires a Biostar motherboard but some other motherboard's might have the same feature located in the BIOS.
To enable the 4th core on your Phenom II you will need to locate the "Advanced Clock Calibration" setting and turn it to Auto - which basically enables the use of quad cores on the CPU. Now, when you load your OS you should see the added CPU.
Be warned though, usually when AMD or Intel ships a CPU with one of the cores disabled, it's because they probably had issues with running the extra core on that specific CPU. It could be due to heating, performance, or some other issue. Regardless, it's a great tip and comes to us from Korean based review site, playwares.com.
Apparently its giving users a nice performance increase when benchmarking with the extra core, it's like overclocking without touching a bus setting! However, while you are at it, go ahead and overclock it to 6.5GHz for an added performance boost!
