The latest version of Boxee now includes Hulu, which Boxee lost as a content provider late last month. In a roundabout way, Boxee has added back Hulu as a content provider but not in the same light as before.
The Boxee team has decided to enable access to users favorite content via a new built-in RSS reader optimized for video and it supports Google Video, Yahoo, YouTube, and feeds from other sites. It also supports Hulu's public RSS feed. While it's not as attractive as before and definitely not as robust, it does well with allowing users to still access content on Hulu as before.
The new Boxee in Alpha supports the new RSS feeds (no Ubuntu update yet) and it also includes two other features under development:
* App Box - this is a first take at an application store that makes it easy for users to install new apps and plugins. There is also native support for 3rd party repositories, so you dont have to rely on boxee as a gatekeeper for what goes into the official boxee app store. For example, you can add dir.boxeehq.com as a repository to get access to all the boxeehq.com apps.
* Auto Update - No need to check on Twitter or the boxee blog to know that there is a new version. now you'll be prompted to update boxee whenever there is a new release ready.
Keep in mind, the Boxee Alpha is not for the faint at heart - its a bleeding-edge release and may have issues if you use it. They hope to have a more stable release by March 24th.
