Microsoft Surface 2 'Second Light' Has Touch-Free Controls

The next generation Microsoft Surface is coming, dubbed 'Second Light' and will be built from the original model but will include many new enhancements. For one, the new Surface 2 will include a second projector within so that images can be projected onto a layer above the original surface screen. This allows you to overlay things such as satellite imagery or radar on street maps for example. It could also be used with many other applications. Building architects could use it to overlay a second story floor plan over the main story.

Another nice feature is that you will no longer have to touch anything. Instead, it uses infrared sensors which can interpret movements of your hands and fingers without even having to touch the screen you can command it to do as you want. Can we say Minority Report?. There will also be high definition cameras built-in the device, but no word on what those will actually be used for - but we'll let your imagination run wild with that.

The new device is still in Microsoft's Research and Development department. Microsoft has been tight lipped on the whole project but it's expected that the Microsoft Surface 2 will be in the public eye within 2 - 3 years.
