Microsoft officially said its latest operating system, Windows 7 would be available to the general public beginning October 22nd 2009, well ahead of the "holiday shopping season" they originally said. It also happens to be only one day earlier, than we originally was informed by manufactures.
"The feedback from the release candidate has been good," Senior Vice President Bill Veghte said. Veghte was referring to the large amount of interest that the new operating system has been getting, and most of the interest has been positive. Tech Fragments has been testing Windows 7 since the early beta and we've thoroughly enjoyed everything new and improved that Windows 7 has offered.
The Microsoft Windows 7 RC was made available to the public on May 5th, 2009 and gives anyone in the world free access to the operating system for over a year. This gives the public the opportunity to try it out and it also gives Microsoft the ability to say that Windows 7 is the most tested operating system in the history of the company, and that actually means a lot!
Among the new features for Windows 7 include; Windows XP Mode for running older Windows applications and Needy State and one of our favorite features the Taskbar Open With option on the superbar. There are also many other improvements that deal with performance and the overall speed of the OS. We really enjoy the faster startup and shutdown times as well as the new and "less naggy" security features.
Pricing for the new version of Windows has still not yet been released. We expect to hear about pricing in the upcoming weeks as everything else about Windows 7 is out of the bag.
