Beginning this morning, broadcasters across the U.S. will begin cutting the analog signals being broadcast to viewers which will end 60 years of analog TV broadcasting and leaving more than a million homes without TV according to statistics.
The FCC performed a soft test in May which showed millions are still unprepared for the switch. At the time, nearly 3.3 million households were still not ready for the transition. Today, around a million households will go black beginning today.
The Federal Communications Commission has placed 4,000 operators on standby to receive calls from analog viewers today which are not ready for the transition. They are expecting the largest call volumes today, and are ready for them.
During their soft test, the majority of users needed assistance with setting up the digital converter boxes and others still needed information on how to get a government coupon for one.
Over have the nation's 1,750 full-power TV stations have already cut the analog signals, and come end of today - there will be no full-power stations running an analog broadcast.
