Apple began notifying customers today via email that their pre-ordered iPhone 3G S had shipped. The email notifying customers, also provided a tracking number so that they could track the package. The iPhone 3G S are shipping out of Shenezen, China and should make their way to most pre-order customers by Friday June 19th.
The pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 3G S have been overwhelming according to Apple and AT&T. They announced recently that any orders made after June 13th would be delayed and that customers would not receive a phone on the launch day Friday. Instead, the orders could be delayed as long as two weeks as Apple prepares for the large demand.
AT&T has a specific number of phones set aside for their retail locations but the number of units is not known. AT&T will be forming two lines on launch day, one for pre-orders and one for customers wanting to get one on the day of launch. The pre-order customer line would be served first.
The iPhone 3GS was unveiled last week at the World Wide Developers Conference. The new iPhone boasts a 3-megapixel digital camera with a "tap to focus" lens. It also supports full 30 frames per sec video recording and video editing capabilities. It also features; HSPA, better battery life, faster CPU, more memory, OS 3.0, and many other features users have asked for.
We all know that AT&T won't offer any type of insurance for the iPhone but word has it, Best Buy ill be offering it's Geek Squad Black Tie Protection in addition to the Apple Two Year extended AppleCare warranty. To receive this extra protection, you must purchase your iPhone 3G S from Best Buy and it will cost you, greatly. The new insurance to protect the iPhone will set you back $15 a month, ouch! Insurance for typical phones at Best Buy usually runs around $8 - $10 a month.
You can always wing it, like I do. If it breaks, go out and buy another one.
The iPhone 3G S will be available in the US on June 19th, 2009 for $199 with 16GB and $299 for the 32GB model. iPhone 3G S requires a new two year contract with AT&T for qualifying customers.
