Sony today introduced two new e-book readers, the Reader Pocket Edition which sales for $199 and the Reader Touch Edition for $299. The two new devices come at a time when the higher costs and issues with the Amazon Kindle are still on the mind of many consumers which makes a great entry point into the market by Sony with the two new ebook readers.
The Sony Reader Pocket Edition has a 5-inch screen and uses the E-ink Vizplex technology for displaying the "ink" on the screen. It weighs in at only 7.7 ounces, measures 6.2 by 4.2 inches and is only 0.2 inches thick. It's small enough to fit in your pocket or a purse and makes it an on-the-go ebook reader device like we've not seen before.
The new small compact ebook reader can store up to 350 e-books and has enough battery life for reading up to two weeks before a recharge is required. It will come in blue, rose, and silver.
The Sony Reader Touch Edition is really taking an aim at the new Amazon Kindle DX with its touchscreen functionality. It measures only 6-inches, making it smaller than the Kindle but perhaps easier to hold. With the included stylus, readers can take notes on the e-books they read, underline text, and more.
The Touch Edition ebook reader weighs in at 10.1 ounces, measures 6.9 by 4.8 inches and is only 0.4 inches thick. It will be available in red, black, and silver.
Both of the two new ebook readers will be available at the end of August from SonyStyle stores, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target and other retailers.
