Google Chrome Operating System Unveiled

We've all heard about it, we've all dreamed about it, but now it's official and it's coming sooner rather than later - The Google Chrome Operating System. The Google Chrome OS will be based off of the Google Chrome Browser and will feature a Linux Kernel that boots to a new window manager and from there runs the browser.

Google Chrome OS will of course be open source and will target netbooks. It will be designed to run on both ARM and x86 platforms and Google apparently is already working with partners to bring the OS on a number of netbooks next year.

FireFox To Get Process Separation: Multi-Core Support

FireFox 3.5 is a very strong contender in the browser market but one feature it lacks that Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 8 has is multi-process browsing. Multi-process browsing gives the browser ultimate stability and performance for computers with multiple processors or CPU cores by having each page or tab, run in a separate process. This means each tab could theoretically could be on separate processors or cores giving you a performance boost over having just one process (the browser) running on just one CPU or core.

We gain not only performance from this type of process separation, we also gain security because if one page ends up being malicious its process can be closed and is segregated from the remaining browser processes.

Apple iPhone SMS Vulnerability Provides Root Access Remotely

During a presentation at the SyScan conference in Singapore, Charlie Miller, a renown security expert and winner of the Pwn2Own hacker contest, unveiled a disturbing vulnerability in the iPhone. The vulnerability would allow him to inject SMS messages into the iPhone and then have the recipient of the message automatically run malicious code on the phone.

Microsoft Windows 7 RTM Coming July 13th

Mark your calenders everyone, July 13th 2009 will be the day that Microsoft will officially announce the Windows 7 RTM. This also happens to be the same day as the Worldwide Partner Conference 09 in New Orleans.

We are likely to see many more leaked builds before the July 13th date, as Microsoft engineers continue to smash bugs and other problematic showstopper issues. On July 13th, all manufactures will be able to get their hands on the RTM to begin testing with their software and hardware.

Windows 7 Build 7264 and 7265 Leaked ISO Dowloads

The latest version of Windows 7 has leaked out onto the Internet, this time it is Windows 7 Build 7264 which has a build string of 6.1.7264.0.win7_rtm.090622-1900.

We have also seen reports of Windows 7 Build 7265 being leaked already which carries the build string of 6.1.7265.0.win7_rtm.090624-1905 which means it was compiled on June 24th.

As of now, we are only a few weeks away from the final RTM version of the operating system. Stay tuned for the final build name!

Apple iPhone 3.1 OS Update Released

Not more than two weeks ago, Apple released the iPhone OS 3.0 upgrade to the public and now they have just released the iPhone OS 3.1 update to developers. The new beta build 7C97D for iPhone OS 3.1 has no official changes as of yet but reports suggest that it makes both the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS much speedier moving around in the operating system.
