Lonely Planet, the big travel publisher with the great little books, has released their first five ebook titles to the iBooks store that lets you read ebooks on your iPad. Lonely Planet Discover guides are for Great Britain, Italy, Spain, France and Ireland are the ones available, and odds are there will be many more, since this is a great use of the iPad. You could download and store all 5 guides on your device and throw all the paper copies away, saving a lot of room in your backpack. Plus they are interactive, containing over 300 hyperlinks to websites of hotels, restaurants and other local attractions.Read more

Displayport 1.2 Finalized by VESA

VESA ( the Video Electronics Standards Association) recently introduced the DisplayPort v1.2 digital communication interface, with double the data transfer rate of v1.1, 21.6 Gbps vs. the current version’s 10.8 Gbps. The new version also leaps past HDMI by allowing support for up 4 monitors on a single plug, plus FullHD 3D at 120 frames per second and bidirectional USB data transfer rates of 480 Mbps. ComScore Flurry Partnership to Enhance App Data

Flurry and comScore have announced an alliance for mobile app stats. A new joint offering unites comScore’s mobile data with Flurry Analytics mobile application usage data to give publishers, marketers and advertisers a better look at the consumption habits of application users on iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices. The service will be available as part of comScore’s leading Mobile Media service in Q1 of 2010. Flurry Analytics will provide real-time data, such as frequency of app use, length of use, the user’s geographic location, new vs. return usage and Wi-Fi vs. carrier network usage, via comScore’s audience measurement platform.Read more

Nook Delays Mean Barnes & Noble Gift Certificate

Barnes & Noble is still scrambling to deliver it’s Nook e-reader to customers before Christmas and promised that those who do not receive their Nook by Christmas Eve will receive a $100 Barnes&Noble.com Online Gift Certificate along with a humble apology. Most of those who pre-ordered the device in time for a pre-holiday estimated ship date will get their Nook on or before December 24, but there are expected to be a small percentage who will not, due to the heavy demand.
